The Talking Clock

Well...hi...I start this blog as abruptly as I had stopped writing them almost an year back. This one is about a personal victory over a very trivial matter but what was more important was the learning it gave me.

This battle, if I may pronounce it, started almost 2 years ago when my daughter insisted me on buying her a talking clock. So, a good father with the intent of teaching her time, I went to the shop and as instructed by my daughter picked up this talking digital clock. By default, the temperature was been shown in degrees Fahrenheit. I tried out all permutations and combinations by fiddling with all the buttons on the clock. No matter how hard I tried, I wasn't able to change it into degrees Celsius. I had a couple of other digital clocks in which there was a seperate button for display change of temperature. This was critically missing here. I went to the extent of literally opening a few screws but Alas to no avail..

The thing with the digital clock is that when you put the battery in it, it displays all the fields...and yes indeed it had the now all important degrees Celsius sign on it as well. Time moved on...everyday I used to see the clock and think what would be the way to convert the display of the temperature...

Fast forward to 9.30 am today morning...I just picked up the clock again...my mind told me that every time I pressed the 'mode' button, there as a corresponding action and so this time I went very slowly..one by one...and Bingo!!! There it was...the battle had been won...it now proudly displays the temperature in degrees Celsius. I was so excited that I even took a picture of it ( have attached it, just see the temperature, it was getting hot already!)

What this small incident taught me was that I knew what I wanted was always right in front of me and all it required was the right frame of mind to solve it....

That's what life has in store for all of us...if you know it is achievable and it is a matter of the right attitude, victory is just a matter of time..

Moral of the story: Even if you fail in your attempts, don't fail to attempt again..

Well, if you liked it, then I would be happy to know your comments...(Well, in case you didn't, then more so)

I leave you all with a small quote by legendary Bruce Lee...Do not pray for an easy life, pray for the strength to endure a difficult one..

  3. Someone just wrote this on his FB page and I read it

    "A river cuts the rock,
    not because of its power,
    but because of its consistency.
Remember never lose your hope& keep walking towards the target."
Then I read your article...Well I assume the super power is trying to tell me to apply this principle in life.

CUT TO REALITY, & BANG - with the ever changing scenarios of today is it really worth banging your head on the same thing over and over again. In this fast paced world full of options and opportunities should one really be looking at attempting things again and again. Is this achievement really worth the efforts....Like for the river by cutting the rock it widens its path, whereas it could just flow over the rock and still achieve the same thing...with your case just picking up a watch which had the simple option to change could have done the job....
JUST SOME FOOD FOR THOUGHT >>>>> .
I think I am just living life with some difference...would love to hear your opinion on this one...

    1. Hey Gaurav....I love this 'food for thought' and this becomes my next blog...will post it in a day or two!

Appreciate your taking out time and sharing your views on this with me. At the end of the day, it is only we who decide whether what we got was worth our efforts or not...well in my case it surely was!

      Regards
      Bhupesh

    2. How could Food for thought be the next topic....well things in my life are pretty much different these days...the thought process is different

Well most of the times you cant really decide whether it was worth it or not......The world is a complex place..
Now for me I moved into business from job...now the amount of money I earn I have to make an investment and effort to generate that money.....lets say it was Rs. X..If I stayed back in job, I would not have to invest and I would make lets say Rs. X minus Y%...now since X and Y are hypothetical one can not decide which is better, let alone the pros and cons of business and job..bahut complication hai baba!!!!

  4. Welcome back Bhupesh - now for the article - I really liked it and then I read through the comments until I banged on Gaurav's - what a contrast and now I'm thinking maybe he is right - actually both of you are right - I would say in today's world it is important to think out-of-the-box and at the same time it is important to not lose patience or deter from your hard work.
I'm saying to my self - there goes a Libra mind balancing both worlds :)

    1. You are right no one can be right or wrong until its things like 2+2 or e=mc2 etc etc...its all a matter of my opinion and your opinion..

well I am looking for a lot of answers in my life for myself....most importantly to the question Did I make a right decision to move into business? Am I doing the right business? are my efforts in the business really worth what I earn from it? and then there are many more......Phew!!!!
      looking forward to your next..

  6. I remember when I was in class 5, I read a poem,"Try again, try again until you succeed". I can't recall rest of the poem but this one line has been stuck in my mind ever since. That doesn't mean that I implement it all the time but yes, all those things in my life that were important, I tried again and again until I succeeded or say close to succeeded (after all compromise is also a part of life, ha ha). Life and its priorities are changing all the time, what is worth the effort now could be waste of time at a later stage but we should live in the moment and do what gives us satisfaction, after all life is short.

  8. In my understanding what made you do it at last, is the restlessness and dissatisfaction. These two things didn't let you loose your focus from the work that needs to be done. There could be reasons for that restlessness-like you love your daughter alot or may be you think that you can do it just the effort from your side is missing.
I would say most people are like that when you really want to do something there is nothing that can come in your way. Most of the time the "willingness" is missing because "Where there is will there is always a way".
